The Wham! collection The Final stands as the most accurate compilation of the duo's hits, even including the correct single versions of hits that were not available on their respective albums. From the early bubblegum silliness of "Bad Boys," "Wham! Rap," and "Young Guns" to the singles that made them an international pop phenomenon ("Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," "Everything She Wants," "Careless Whisper," and "I'm Your Man"), the hits are all here. "Everything She Wants" and "Freedom" are included in their single versions which did not appear on the multimillion-selling Make It Big. Also included is George Michael's first true solo hit, "A Different Corner," which, along with "Careless Whisper," hints at the later, more sophisticated styles of music that would further propel him into international superstar status.
The Singles: Echoes From The Edge Of Heaven is a new Wham! release which marks the pop band’s 40th anniversary. It collects all ten singles that Wham! released in the UK (‘Careless Whisper’, as a George Michael single is not included) and will be available across five physical formats, some of which offer B-sides and remixes. The audio has all been newly remastered from the original tapes.
The Shadows have gotten a magnificent sendoff with this concert DVD from their final tour, undertaken in 2004 and featuring Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, and Brian Bennett, supported by Mark Griffiths on bass and Cliff Hall on keyboards…
The Shadows long and influential career has spanned 6 decades, with hit singles or albums in every one of them. Hank Marvin s guitar playing has been an inspiration to hordes of guitarists down the years, including the likes of Brian May, Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend. Over a decade since their last tour, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett reunited as The Shadows for The Final Tour, which kicked off in spring 2004. A sell out everywhere, the band played to over 90,000 people in the UK. This concert was recorded at Cardiff s International Arena on June 5. The tracklisting includes an astonishing 23 UK top ten hits, of which no less than 8 were No.1 s, together with other favourite Shadows tracks.
Jerry Goldsmith won an Oscar for his memorable score to The Omen. For this, the third Omen picture, Goldsmith cranked up the volume and delivered an epic score to accompany the final struggle between good and evil. The original CD release featured poor sound and a limited running time, burying a brilliant score within a mediocre presentation. Varese Sarabande rights this wrong with this expanded CD featuring over an hour of music, all remastered with brilliantly clear sound. Goldsmith's opening salvo, suggesting Gabriel's trumpets, opens the CD with a nod toward the coming Armageddon. As in his score for The Omen, Goldsmith accentuates passages with choral overtones, though the bulk of the music is purely orchestral, moving from the quietly sinister to all-out war.
A portion of Duane Allman’s final concert with the Allman Brothers Band, recorded just 12 days prior to the guitarist’s death, will be released this October. The Final Note, featuring seven songs from the Allmans’ October 17, 1971 concert in Owings Mill, Maryland, is one of a pair of archival releases the Southern rock jam band will release on October 16th; the other is a full recording of their July 19, 2005 concert in Erie, Pennsylvania, JamBase reports.
