Chad Crouch’s soundwalks fuse immersive binaural recordings—made while walking through a sound-rich natural environment—with his elegantly simple instrumental scores. Columbia Lowlands Soundwalk captures the reverberant ancient calls of Sandhill Cranes wintering along the Columbia river, pairing them to tender, evocative, melodic performances.

New York’s grit and glitz, two faced grin, definitely inspired the urban sound of this record.

This Friday Sept 6 we’re releasing a session we recorded named ‘Infrared’. This was a fully improvised recording of drums, sax and taishokoto in a studio wired with overwhelming reverb pumping back at us. The recording was also captured in a beautifully processed film shot by Lisa IndigoBurns Wormsley.

A feverish essay of transcendent drumming: Chris’ solo approach, rooted in the exploration of elements of extended technique, sought another level, via possibilities facilitated by a self-made string drum! The Key (Became The Important Thing [& Then Just Faded Away]) brings his encompassing focus on free improvisation and noise into a granular fusion with acoustic experiments and hot-wired ideations of hard rock riffing and the post-punk sound.
