After the enormous global success of their debut album FOREVER YOUNG (1984), German trio ALPHAVILLE set off to write another successful chapter in their career with the release of their second studio album AFTERNOONS IN UTOPIA (1986). The album reached Top 20 positions in five European countries and featured the singles “Dance With Me,” “Universal Daddy,” and “Jerusalem.”
Some call him a genius, others claim he's certifiably insane, a madman. Truth is, he's both, but more importantly, Lee Perry is a towering figure in reggae a producer, mixer, and songwriter who, along with King Tubby, helped shape the sound of dub and made reggae music such a powerful part of the pop music world. Along with producing some of the most influential acts (Bob Marley & the Wailers and the Congos to name but two) in reggae history, Perry's approach to production and dub mixing was breathtakingly innovative and audacious no one else sounds like him and while many claim that King Tubby invented dub, there are just as many who would argue that no one experimented with it or took it further than did Lee Perry.
Tensongs is the fourth studio album by the German synthpop band Hubert Kah, and their first English language album, released in 1986. It was produced by Michael Cretu and Armand Volker. Three singles were released from the album: "Limousine", "Something I Should Know" and "Love Is So Sensible". The opening track "Pogo the Clown" is based on the American serial killer John Wayne Gacy. "Get Strange" featured on the 1986 film Rad.
Tensongs is somewhat a cross between German synth-group Yello of the 80's and Alphaville. Kah's music has a cold yet dramatically likeable sound with rich synthesized textures. Lead singer Hubert Kemmler's voice is what adds the warmth and likeability factor to this material.
Northern Lite, an electro-rock group, carved out a respectable niche for themselves on the German music scene, not only via their record releases and remixes, but also via their own label, 1st Decade Records. Andreas Kubat and Sebastian Bohn – a vocalist and DJ, respectively – formed Northern Lite in 1997 in Erfurt, Thuringia, while guitarist Larry Lowe later joined in 2001, bringing an element of rock music to the group's style of electronica. Lowe eventually left the group in 2004, going on to form the solo act Fujimo, and was replaced by guitarist Sascha Littek. Northern Lite made their recording debut in 2001 on 1st Decade Records, their own Erfurt-based label; that year they issued several releases: Trusting Blind, Ways Ain't Working, Treat Me Better, and Trusting Blind Remixes – in that order, each on 12" vinyl – in addition to a full-length album, Small Chamber Works.
