This new four-disc "Jagged Little Pill: Collector's Edition" includes remastered audio of the original album plus an entire disc of 10 unreleased demos from the era handpicked by Morissette from her archives, offering a deeper and more personal look at the classic album. The track "The Bottom Line" is possibly the most historically significant-it's the first song Morissette and album producer Glen Ballard wrote together within an hour of their very first meeting in 1994. Ballard also oversaw mixing and mastering for this collector's edition. Also included is a previously unreleased concert from 1995 as well 2005's "Jagged Little Pill Acoustic".

When Alanis Morissette took direct aim at an ex who wronged her on the eviscerating “You Oughta Know” in 1995, everything about the Top 10 song communicated it wasn’t the usual narrative about love gone south. Or the typical wounded singer wallowing in self pity. Morissette, and both the lead single from and her entire American major-label debut – the profoundly personal Jagged Little Pill – represented a sea change. They kickstarted a movement, one whose impact continues to echo throughout the mainstream three decades later.

There's an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm from 2002 where Alanis Morissette is performing at a benefit concert that's eventually held at Larry David's home, where she sings a stripped-down acoustic arrangement of "You Oughta Know" with guitarist David Levita for an audience of wealthy Hollywood liberals. This may not have been the genesis of her 2005 album Jagged Little Pill Acoustic – initially for sale only in Starbucks stores, but released to mass retail in late July – but that performance not only offers a clue to the sound of this acoustic-based reinterpretation of her blockbuster breakthrough, but also to its target audience…

It's remarkable that Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill struck a sympathetic chord with millions of listeners, because it's so doggedly, determinedly insular. This, after all, plays like an emotional purging, prompted by a bitter relationship – and, according to all the lyrical hints, that's likely a record executive who took advantage of a young Alanis…

Singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette became one of the most unlikely stars of the 1990s on the strength of her third album, "Jagged Little Pill". A former child actress turned dance-pop diva, Morissette transformed herself into a confessional alternative singer/songwriter in the vein of Liz Phair and Tori Amos. However, she bolstered that formula with enough pop sensibility, slight hip-hop flourishes, and marketing savvy to become a superstar. Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995, spun off six highly successful singles and earned Morissette several Grammy Awards the following year, including Album of the Year.

This summer is heating up for Alanis Morissette, who is set to release her ninth album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road, on July 31. To top it off, the iconic singer-songwriter revealed that a deluxe version of her seminal Jagged Little Pill album will also drop this month. The new edition, arriving on June 26, pairs the original 13-track album, produced by Glen Ballard, with a new acoustic live album from Morissette's March 2020 performance at Shepherd’s Bush.

To mark the 10-year anniversary of the 30 million-selling Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette decided to release an acoustic version of the very same 13 songs. A little more sung than screamed, Jagged Little Pill Acoustic is certainly less edgy than the original, but then again, so is Alanis herself. Now a 30-something Grammy-winner, she has far less to be angst-y about. The disc opens with one of its highlights, a slightly East Indian-tinged "All I Really Want" which includes a more controlled vocal than the original, backed by Arabic-influenced instrumentation. The new take is most charming, as is "Right Through You" which proves to be another case of improving on the original. Morissette's vocals soar through the chorus, now swooping over a host of (once again) Eastern-influenced strings. The vitriolic "You Oughtta Know"–perhaps the most rockin' track on the original CD–is now more contemplative in it's pace and sensibility, as is "You Learn"'s new mellower melody.

It's remarkable that Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill struck a sympathetic chord with millions of listeners, because it's so doggedly, determinedly insular. This, after all, plays like an emotional purging, prompted by a bitter relationship – and, according to all the lyrical hints, that's likely a record executive who took advantage of a young Alanis. She never disguises her outright rage and disgust, whether it's the vengeful wrath of "You Oughta Know" or asking him "you scan the credits for your name and wonder why it's not there." This is such insider information that it's hard to believe that millions of listeners not just bought it, but embraced it, turning Alanis Morisette into a mid-'90s phenomenon.
