GRP All-Star Big Band is a jazz album by the big band of the same name. The album was nominated for the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Recording at the 35th Annual Grammy Awards. The band was assembled in celebration for the tenth anniversary of GRP Records and featured the top musicians of the label. The album itself was recorded and mixed over a two day session and filmed for the accompanying video directed by Ed Libonati.

I lose count of the many recordings that are graced by the presence of trumpeter Alex Sipiagin. Over the past decade, he’s released 10 as a leader on Criss Cross (not to forget 2 recordings with OPUS 5) plus several more on other labels. As a sideman, he’s worked and recorded with Conrad Herwig, Dave Holland, the Mingus Big Band/Dynasty/Orchestra and many others. His new CD, “From Reality and Back” appears on Gonzalo Rubalcaba‘s 5 Passion label.

Depuis vingt-cinq ans, le duo André Charlier; batterie et Benoît Sourisse; claviers est devenu un incontournable de la scène française et ne cesse de surprendre pour ses nombreux projets. Au fil des années, à travers les multiples concerts et rencontres musicales, le projet de créer un Big Band Charlier/Sourisse est apparu aux deux musiciens comme une évidence. Leur musique, « comme un jeu de légo entretoisé multipliant les lignes de fuites, les superpositions, les à-pics vertigineux » se prête à merveille à une écriture pour grand ensemble. Ils ont ainsi confié 13 compositions originales extraites de leurs différents albums à trois arrangeurs parmi les plus reconnus de la scène européenne: Pierre Drevet, Carine Bonnefoy et Stan Sulzmann qui ont réalisé des arrangements et orchestrations pour dix-sept musiciens!

Alex Skolnick is a true guitar hero. At sixteen years old, he joined a group of twenty-somethings who'd formed a thrash metal band called TESTAMENT. Alex stayed with the band through five critically acclaimed albums and countless tours with, among others, SLAYER, MEGADETH, JUDAS PRIEST and WHITE ZOMBIE. After hearing and seeing one of Miles Davis' electric bands on TV, Alex relocated to New York City to play and study jazz.
