Alison Balsom must be counted among the most popular classical trumpeters in the 2000s, as she's gained wide international recognition only since the turn of the century. Her first recording, Music for Trumpet and Organ, was issued in 2002, and her first major award came in 2006, when the jurors of the Classical BRIT Awards named her Young British Classical Performer. Balsom's repertory is broad, taking in a mixture of the standard repertory, original works, and arrangements. In 2020, she released the album Magic Trumpet on Warner Classics. Balsom was born in the English county of Hertfordshire in 1978.

Alison Goldfrapp has set a towering bar for British synth-pop in the 21st century and she’s only just getting started. The magnetic London-born singer, songwriter and producer’s seven albums with Goldfrapp were fuelled by an unfailing modernity and a sixth sense for sounds that were more timeless than any trend. With the release of her debut solo album The Love Invention—an electrifying dance-pop suite—her multi-faceted musicianship reaches a new peak.

Alison Truefitt (1942-2020) was touched by genius. During a life sadly curtailed by dementia she managed to cram in five different careers, in all of which she operated at the highest level. As a young woman leaving University, she became Education Correspondent at the London Evening Standard. This she abandoned in 1971 to found the White Lion Street Free School in London, which broke the mould of traditional education and influenced generations of theorists. Then she moved on to pursue a lifelong dream of being a professional musician, enrolling in her thirties at the royal Academy of Music and emerging a world-class singer, as you will hear on this album. And, entering her fifties, she combined two further parallel careers, saving the community shop in her local village in Wales (for which she was awarded an MBE) and fulfilling her potential as a writer of poems, stories and novels.

A British pop singer known for her rich, remarkably bluesy voice, Alison Moyet sang in the short-lived, hit alternative dance group Yazoo before returning to the top of the U.K. album chart with her 1984 solo debut, Alf. It included "Invisible," her only Top 40 hit in the U.S. She went on to become a steady presence on the U.K. charts, however, with each of her studio albums reaching at least the Top 30. Sticking with a primarily synth-driven adult pop for her first few albums, she eventually experimented with lusher arrangements, including strings on 2002's Hometime, and took on standards with 2004's Voice. Released in 2013, The Minutes marked a return to club-minded electronics while keeping her sound distinctly contemporary. In 2017, Moyet's ninth studio album, Other, was accompanied by her first extensive world tour in 30 years. Collection includes all studio albums at the moment: Alf (1984); Raindancing (1987); Hoodoo (1991) EU and Japanese press; Essex (1994); Hometime (2002); Voice (2004); Voice (2004) 2CD Deluxe Edition 2015; The Turn (2007); The Minutes (2013); Other (2017).

Alison Balsom must be counted among the most popular Classical trumpeters before the public today. Yet, she has gained wide international recognition only since the turn of the century. Her first recording, Music for Trumpet and Organ, was issued in 2002, and her first major award was given to her in 2006, when the jurors of the Classical BRIT Awards named her Young British Classical Performer. Other awards and citations followed and her concert appearances quickly became major events across England, Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Of course, her supermodel looks and charismatic manner haven't hurt her career, but in the end it has been her talent on the trumpet, forged by an all-encompassing technique and deft interpretive sense, that landed her at the top.
