What a treat! An incredible compilation for those Davis fans who love his cooler bluesy/modal material. The brilliant producer Michael Cuscuna has combed through the early Davis "Birth of the Cool" sessions (1950), several Blue Note sessions in 1952 and 1954, plus one cut from the classic Adderley/Davis album Somethin' Else to create a cool blues compilation of Davis' stuff stripped of all the bop up-tempo elements. The result is a precursor to Kind of Blue, an album that shows all of the bluesy cool Miles Davis that many of us are so very fond of. Don't miss it.

Features the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD player) and the latest 24bit 192kHz remastering. This LP was the very obvious follow-up to the moderately commercially successful "The Look of Love." Both took their titles from their opening Burt Bacharach tunes; and both included other contemporary pop hits, including by the Beatles. This one added a second Paul McCartney Beatles song, with the last two tracks being "Hey Jude" and "Fool on the Hill." The arranger on both "The Look of Love" and "Always Something There" was the great Thad Jones, who contributed one excellent original blues-jazz composition for each - here, one called "Home Town," which outstrips everything else due to its creative jazz content.

Anita O'Day is one of the very best jazz vocalists of all time. Her recordings for Norman Granz represent her best recorded work. Here it all is. The sound quality of these CDs is better than any others of the same recordings. I know because I have them all, in shellac, in vinyl, in CD. In addition, the booklet that comes with the set, like the ones in all Mosaic sets, is first class. Well written, nice photos, accurate information. The one shortfall is that Anita was very much a visual artist, the way she worked, led the band, her timing all that was fascinating to watch and of course other than the photos in the booklet, this is an entirely audio experience. Without question this is the best Anita you will ever hear. It is a shame that it is out of print.

Although he's a monster tenor soloist on funky, exuberant, bluesy soul-jazz, Stanley Turrentine is even more awesome on ballads. His rich, steamy sound, full tone, and ability to pace and develop moods is ideal for show tunes and sentimental love songs. This nine-track set begins with Turrentine nicely caressing the melody and turning in a standout treatment on "Willow Weep For Me," continuing through tearjerkers ("Since I Fell For You") and blues anthems ("God Bless The Child"), and closing with Thad Jones' beautiful "A Child Is Born." Turrentine is matched with numerous premier players, and pianist McCoy Tyner, guitarist Jimmy Smith, and even Turrentine's brother Tommy (trumpet) gently support and complement the main soloist. One of the best Blue Note special discs, featuring moving, frequently hypnotic playing from a true tenor great.

Born in Osaka. The roots are South Korea. When she was in junior high school, she became fascinated by the song of Harry Connick Jr. from the TV commercial and became interested in jazz. Debuted in October 2003 with her album "better than anything". In January 2004, she also succeeded in a solo tour centered on the national Blue Note, which is unusual for a newcomer. Her debut album will be released in Korea and she will visit Korea for promotion. From January 2004, the song "Close to you" will be used for the TV commercial of Toyota Home.
