Beethoven Eroica

The appointment of a Principal Guest Conductor with effect from the 2012/2013 season was a novelty in the long history of the Dresden Staatskapelle and bears testimony to the close relationship between Myung-Whun Chung and the orchestra.

The Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1972. It is composed of graduates of the most important German Rhineland Conservatories. They are superbly gifted young players who, once they have finished their studies, wish to experience the reality of a practical musical life playing chamber music and symphonic repertory at the highest level before entering their careers as soloists or as members of some philharmonic orchestra. In the last decades, it has given thousands of concerts with different programs and with varying formations throughout the world.
In Germany, the Cologne New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra has realized 12 television programs and has recorded numerous records.

The American pianist Claire Huangci, winner of the 2018 Geza Anda Competition, continuously captivates audiences with her “radiant virtuosity, artistic sensitivity, keen interactive sense and subtle auditory dramaturgy” (Salzburger Nachrichten).

After a first exciting solo disc of Mozart’s Sonatas on the fortepiano, Maxim Emelyanychev now holds the baton in a symphonic program.

Rudolf Kempe was a German conductor. One of the great unsung conductors of the middle twentieth century, Rudolf Kempe enjoyed a strong reputation in England but never quite achieved the international acclaim that he might have had with more aggressive management, promotion, and recording. Not well enough known to be a celebrity but too widely respected to count as a cult figure, Kempe is perhaps best remembered as a connoisseur's conductor, one valued for his strong creative temperament rather than for any personal mystique. This Japanese double reissue of pair of Beethoven's recordings (Symphony No. 3 In E Flat Major, Op.55 'Eroica' (1960) & Overtures (1959)) features the 96kHz/24bit DSD Mastering from the analog master tapes.

Bernstein at 100 is a two-year global celebration of the 20th century cultural giant officially commencing on 22 September 2017. This remastered Beethoven Symphonies is the first product in DG’s suite of Bernstein releases to mark the occasion.

It was some years after founding the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century in 1981 that Frans Brüggen first turned his attention to the music of Beethoven’s Nine Symphonies and endeavoured to perceive that special orchestral landscape, in order to transform it into musical sound, with the use of period instruments rediscovering historical tonal colours. Now, his quest undimmed, Brüggen has submerged himself once more into the glories of Beethoven’s orchestral music for a new cycle being issued in a sumptuous new hybrid SACD box set by Glossa. Likewise undimmed is the rapport he shares with his orchestra for one of classical music’s greatest challenges of realizing the intimate and the familiar in these symphonies, a challenge achieved here on record by way of concert performances.
