Beat the Boots is a collection of bootleg recordings by Frank Zappa which were originally distributed illegally but were released officially by Rhino Entertainment in 1991. The recordings were available as individual CDs and as an LP or cassette box set. The eight discs span a fifteen-year period from September 30, 1967 ('Tis the Season to Be Jelly) to May 21, 1982 (two tracks on As an Am).

Completes the Freddie King story, with all of his 1974-75 RSO studio recordings (some with label-mate Eric Clapton) and four jam-packed discs of sizzling mid-'70s live performances. Sonny Rodgers learned guitar from his father and was influenced by B.B. King, Robert Nighthawk and Muddy Waters. After forming his first band at the age of 17, he recorded as accompanist to Forest City Joe Pugh in 1959. Two years later, Rodgers settled in Minneapolis, beginning a long association with Mojo Burford. He also recorded with Lazy Bill Lucas. In the early 70s Rodgers had a spell as guitarist in Muddy Waters’ band, and after some years out of music, he formed his own band in the 80s, winning several music awards in Minnesota. His Blue Moon single ‘Big Leg Woman/Cadillac Blues’ was voted ‘Blues Single Of 1990’ in the international W.C. Handy awards. Rodgers only made one full album, which was highly acclaimed on its release, and tragically coincided with his death on 7 May 1990, just prior to a tour of the UK.

The Lone Star State has a long and impressive history of spawning great blues acts, and four of the all-time greatest Texas guitar slingers are featured on this performance video. Texas Blues Guitar includes three numbers shot in 1991 from Albert Collins ("Ice Man," "Head Rag," and "Lights Are on but Nobody's Home"), three songs from a 1972 Freddie King gig ("Blues Band Shuffle," "Big Leg Woman," and "Going Down"), the great Lightin' Hopkins performing four songs in a 1960 television appearance ("Bunion Stew," "Let's Pull a Party," "Going Down Slow," and "Baby, Come Go Home With Me"), and Mance Lipscomb is represented with four songs filmed in 1968 ("God Moves on the Water," "Night Time Is the Right Time," "Which Way Do the Red River Run," and "Captain Captain").
