The shortest album of Black Sabbath's glory years, Master of Reality is also their most sonically influential work. Here Tony Iommi began to experiment with tuning his guitar down three half-steps to C#, producing a sound that was darker, deeper, and sludgier than anything they'd yet committed to record…

"Heaven and Hell" is the 9th studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath, released on 25 April 1980. It is the 1st Black Sabbath album to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who replaced original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979. Produced by Martin Birch, the album was a commercial success, particularly in the United States, where it reached #28 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Platinum for 1 million sales. In the band's native country, it sold well enough to be certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry in April 1982.

There's a lot of pressure involved with being the rulers of the underworld, and nobody knows it better than Black Sabbath in 2013. Inarguable legends and at least partially responsible for creating heavy metal as we know it with their classic '70s material, Sabbath have spawned generations of followers and become one of the final words of the genre…

his is a decent – if by no means complete – 14-track hits collection by the original Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward) from the debut album through Never Say Die! While hits like "War Pigs," "Iron Man," "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," and "Sweet Leaf" are here, it is inexplicable how they managed to leave off "Supernaut," from Vol. 4! Oh well, the price is right, the sound is decent, and there is enough Sabbath here to rock the house or your car…

With the release of 2013's 13, metal deities Black Sabbath came back not just with their first studio album since 1995, but with a return to the inspired sludginess and demonic crunch of some of their classic early material. The band embarked on a massive tour in support of the album, and Gathered in Their Masses captures live performances from the first two kick-off gigs in Melbourne, Australia. All of the band's original members are present except drummer Bill Ward, and the group powered through set lists somewhat light on material from newer album 13, but padded generously with crowd favorites from the band's untouchable first six albums. Newer jams like "End of the Beginning" sit beside metal blueprints like "Iron Man" and "War Pigs," and the sound of a post-apocalyptic soiree can be heard in the energy of the crowd and the band alike.
