Blondie

Blondie is an American rock band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band were pioneers in the American punk and then the new wave scene of the mid-1970s in New York. Their first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although highly successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles including "Heart of Glass", "Call Me", "Rapture" and "The Tide Is High". The band became noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, reggae, and early rap music.

Seventeen-year old Laura, quaking within her skin while the bursting punk rock revolution explodes around her, starts a band with her teenage friends called the Student Teachers. She's the drummer. They play legendary clubs CBGB, Max's Kansas City, Hurrah they rehearse madly, write songs, and tour the East Coast.

From Blondie's earliest days, performing at legendary New York punk venues such as Max's Kansas City and CBGB's, to their ultimate ascension to global superstardom at the end of the 1970s, Roberta Bayley was present to record the dramatic rise of Blondie and the unique phenomenon of Debbie Harry. The images collected in Blondie: Unseen 1976-1980 provide an inimitable evocation of one of the most creative and exciting periods in popular culture.

On New Years Eve 1979, Blondie performed live for The Old Grey Whistle Test BBC 2 TV Show, at The Apollo in Glasgow. Marking the turn of a new decade performing from December 1979 to January 1980, Blondie wowed their live audience with fan favourites such as "Heart Of Glass", "Hanging On The Telephone" and "Denis".

Blondie will release Vivir En La Habana in July, an ‘official soundtrack’ to a new short film capturing the band’s 2019 live debut performance in Havana, Cuba.
