All along the way this great guitarist has backed up and recorded with a who's-who of the blues including Big Mama Thorton, George Smith, Jimmy Rogers, Shakey Jake, Luther Tucker, Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, William Clark and many more. The title is a nod to the trio format featured on Mayall's 2017 world tour, which includes long time bassist Greg Rzab and drummer Jay Davenport. The new record, produced by Eric Corne and John Mayall and mixed by Corne includes a mix of songs from both recent and classic John Mayall/Bluesbreakers releases, and represents the sixth offering from the fruitful partnership between Mayall and Forty Below Records.

Sometimes perfection is a real bore. In an age where karaoke puppets and corporate niche marketing have rubbed any rough edges from our aural diet, it comes as quite a shock to hear stuff like this. For, while most of this material stems from a timeframe and genre that prided itself on its musical ability, it's by no means a smooth and unchallenging ride. Even Richard Madeley's favourite band, the Moody Blues (who provide the title track to this anthology) sound edgy and mysterious to modern ears. And yet it all fell under the banner of the mighty Decca label.
