Digitally remastered edition of Howard Jones fifth and final long player album for Warner Bros. Released in April 1992, the album was produced by Jones with Ross Cullum, whom he had worked with on his previous album Cross That Line. Rupert Hine was the album's Executive Producer and it was mixed by Bob Clearmountain. In The Running marked a conscious move away from the use of electronic instrumentation towards more piano based melodies.
Ace Records first-ever exploration of the late 1940s hillbilly & western swing masters issued (& in many cases unissued) by Modern/Colonial/Flair Records. Drawing on material recorded in Texas, Louisiana, & Hollywood, 'Swingbillies' offers many important early recordings by young hopefuls who, in many cases, went onto become major country singers & musicians in the 50s & 60s - among them Jimmy Bryant, Ramblin' Jimmie Dolan, Jimmy C. Newman, Link Davis & of course Bill Woods, the godfather of Bakersfield country. 28 tracks.
Three years after their double A-side single "Storm"/"Love's Dart" prompted claims that they were the saviors of the guitar band scene, London-based Edinburgh four-piece Django Django finally commit their quirky brand of intelligent art rock to a full-length album. While the group risked missing the boat with such a lengthy wait, the recent success of fellow avant-garde purveyors Everything Everything and Metronomy suggests their refusal to rush has worked in their favor. Indeed, with indie audiences now eschewing the usual ramshackle "meat and two veg" outfits in favor of something a little more stimulating, its timing couldn't have been better.
Welcome to P48, featuring the latest in up-and-coming and occasionally established progressive music. There is, perhaps inevitably, a heavy Awards presence on this CD, with two winners from this year's event, iamthemorning and The Anchoress, and Elaine Samuels & Kindred Spirit and Marcela Bovio help up the female quotient. Kylver (an Awards nominee) and Desert Dragon represent something a little heavier, and Second Relation, Aisles, Cairo an Tilt lean towards the more melodic.
