Barely Civil was built from this backdrop—four different dots on the state map. Despite this, their debut full-length We Can Live Here Forever plots a journey home, whatever and wherever that means. Stopovers across genre and structure keep the pace measured and lean, while Matt Riefler’s layered production explodes any breathing room into powerful statements.

King of the World in December 2014 took various shows on during their tour. Many recordings with the outlier the show in Paradiso. This resulted in the CD Live at Paradiso. The new CD Live at Paradiso contains King of the World classics like Let's go get stoned, Bluesified and Can't go home, but also new songs as Do it and Woman across the river.

Over four-plus decades, Canadian power trio Rush (bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer Neil Peart) emerged as one of rock's most celebrated and enduring bands. Rush garnered a large and devoted fan following among hard rock, heavy metal, and prog audiences almost from the beginning. They sold over 40 million records and were nominated for seven Grammys between 1981-2010; they also netted 25 gold and/or platinum albums, and all but three entered the upper half of the Top 200. After 1981's chart-topping Moving Pictures, they began a seven-year period where their recorded sound was dominated by Lee's synth playing that culminated on 1989's Presto. During the '90s, they shifted toward a hooky and radio-friendly brand of hard rock, best exemplified by 1996's Test for Echo. During their final period, they delivered studio offerings that fused heavy and prog in new ways.

Pentatone continues its "American Opera Series" with Houston Grand Opera’s world premiere recording of Tarik O’Regan’s The Phoenix (2019), an opera on the life of Lorenzo da Ponte, Mozart’s favorite librettist. Da Ponte (1749-1838) was an adventurer, who not only travelled the world, but in a way also through time, living across what seem to be impossible moments of history that never should have aligned in somebody’s life. Together with librettist John Caird, O’Regan has designed The Phoenix as an opera within an opera, exploring Da Ponte’s life in the US, and as such providing a fascinating perspective on America as a nation of immigrants. The young and elder Da Ponte are created by Luca Pisaroni and Thomas Hampson, respectively. Music director Patrick Summers conducts the Houston Grand Opera.

Animal Collective’s new LP is reportedly finished, but before that sees the light of day, they’ve released a new live album culled from a June 12, 2013 show at Washington, D.C.’s hallowed 9:30 club. Appropriately titled Live at 9:30, this 3xLP is the first time they’ve officially released a full live show and based on the track list it seems like a solid one. A limited physical release of the record is available now via Domino and it’ll hit all digital retailers this Friday, September 4.

Few figures in 20th Century American music had the pervasive influence as David Crosby. As a founding member of the Byrds, he shaped the ringing sound of 1960s folk-rock and pioneered trippy psychedelia yet his greatest fame came as part of Crosby, Stills & Nash, a supergroup he formed with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash that helped usher in the mature, reflective 1970s. Sometimes joined by Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash were wildly successful but volatile, so the members cycled through solo projects and other permutations of their lineup during their salad days of the 1970s.
