One hundred years ago, political revolution transformed Russian society and culture. The revolution of 1917 also changed the great romantic tradition of Russian music. Every day from 9am over Easter, ABC Classic FM will take audiences on a total immersion tour of the beautiful music of Russia. From the pre-1917 sounds of the Romantic tradition, to the music emerging from the uproar and transformation that accompanied the creation of the Soviet state, ABC Classic FM will explore some of the most exciting, passionate, and beautiful music in the Russian repertoire. Several special guests will co-host alongside regular presenters over the long weekend. Respected stage and screen actor and broadcaster Alex Menglet will join Mairi Nicolson on Afternoons on Friday, while renowned composer Elena Kats-Chernin will be in the chair with Tamara-Anna Cislowska on Easter Sunday from 4-7pm. On Monday, acclaimed pianist Sonya Lifschitz will join Alice Keath on Classic Drive.

David T. Walker's final solo LP "On Love" ably captures the gauzy, romantic atmosphere its title promises, but like most of Walker's output as a leader, atmosphere is pretty much all this record has to offer for all its shimmering beauty, the music lacks substance. The plush sophistication of the production is more a minus than a plus never one to the command the spotlight in the first place, Walker completely defers to the overall mood and texture throughout "On Love", and regardless of his technical brilliance, one can't but wish he would simply cut loose and break off a memorable, impassioned guitar solo or two. As usual, he also sticks to familiar pop melodies "Windows of the World" and "Lovin' You," most notably but does little to reinvent or revitalize them. This is music so smooth it slips between the cracks.
