was once called South Coast Sportfishing, which published its first issue back in 1981. Volume 1/Number 1 billed itself as “The Only Newspaper-Magazine Serving Exclusively the Southern California and Baja Sportfishermen” and was 38 pages long on black-and-white newsprint. Since then, the magazine has grown a lot in terms of our page counts and our subscribers – not to mention paper and color quality – but the basic premise is the same: We’re strictly about West Coast saltwater angling, covering the legendary waters from Central America, north to Alaska, and west to Hawaii.
