Agustin Barrios was both a virtuoso and a brilliant composer. Some of his pieces, always the same, are repeated by guitarists from time to time. But Philippe Lemaigre began to engrave the complete parts found of the Argentine master, for the happiness of those who have been able to obtain the rare box of 5 CDs. The work is exceptional, absolutely sublime interpretation, on a magnificent instrument. No equivalent in the history of the guitar.

Of all the Miles Davis recordings, the 16 weeks of sessions that created a single, two-selection LP produced by Teo Macero called A Tribute to Jack Johnson have been the most apocryphal. While the album itself was a confounding obscurity upon release – due to its closeness in proximity to the nearly simultaneous release of the vastly inferior yet infinitely more label-promoted Live at the Fillmore East – its reputation as the first complete fusion of jazz and rock is cemented. It also garnered a place in the history books for guitarist John McLaughlin, the axis around whose raw, slash-and-burn playing the entire album turns.

The Complete CBS Buck Clayton Jam Sessions (extremely rare & limited 1993 US 32-track Mosaic audiophile 8-LP box set) is a superlative package contains all the jam session recordings for CBS, plus alternate takes and originals restored to their full length, with soloists including Joe Newman, Ruby Braff, Urbie Green, Coleman Hawkins, Woody Herman & more. Housed in a beautifully presented textured outer black box with front pasted picture cover, complete with an informative 20-page LP sized booklet, featuring stunning black & white session photographs and extensive liner notes).

With apologies to groups like The Meters, Bar-Kays, and Average White Band, when it comes to all-time great instrumental R&B bands, for most folks Booker T. & the MG's represent the gold standard. And with good reason'or, actually reasons! First of all, as the house band of the hallowed Stax label, The MG's pretty much invented the sound of Southern soul, playing on records by everybody from Otis Redding to Wilson Pickett to Carla Thomas. Second, on their own as Booker T & the MG's, they came up with some of the most indelible instrumental jams of all time, including'but by no means limited to!''Green Onions.' And, third, each member of the band was an absolute monster on their instrument, to this day revered and copied by untold numbers of musicians. Indeed, by the time the mid '60s rolled around, bands on both sides of the Atlantic wanted to sound like Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper, Al Jackson, Jr, and Lewie Steinberg (replaced about halfway through this collection by the great Donald 'Duck' Dunn).

The Complete Jam contains a number of British television performances and spreads them out over two discs. There is the BBC's popular The Old Grey Whistle Test, Marc (hosted by the flamboyant Marc Bolan of T-Rex fame), The Tube (which features an impromptu Peter Weller interview), and Something Else. There are 12 television spots with over 30 song performances. Also included are 16 videos of some of their most popular songs including Town Called Malice, That's Entertainment, Eton Rifles, and Start!. The set continues with contribution pieces Scene: The Fan Phenomenon and The Jam: A Time and a Place, which are insightful looks into the band and serve to augment the videos.
