Forget about the title of this release, it is an excellent compilation of music from the early seventies right up to the present day. Unfortunately record companies ( and critics ! ) seem to have the need to put music into categories, possibly to attract the purchaser, but, as in the case of this disc, it could quite conceivably have the opposite outcome. I do not feel that this selection has any more connection with Summer than with any other time of the year. I also feel that the term " smooth " is derogatory in its concept to most of the tracks here.

Across this rezzed-up hour-plus of back-catalogue reinventions and new delights, electric guitarist Phil Robson, saxophonist Julian Siegel, electric bassist Thaddeus Kelly and drummer Gene Calderazzo command the stage with inimitable joie de vivre. As writers and co-leaders, Robson and Siegel had long thought of releasing a live account of their dynamic shows: “We’ve played many memorable gigs over the years and wanted to capture that energy, in the great tradition of jazz recording.”

Digitally remastered two CD set containing a trio of albums from the American singer/songwriter: Night Rains (1979), Restless Eyes (1981) and Uncle Wonderful (1983) plus bonus tracks. Night Rains was Janis' sixth album for CBS and features two of her first-ever co-writes: 'The Other Side Of The Sun' was written with Albert Hammond while 'Fly Too High' was co-written and produced by disco colossus Giorgio Moroder. Restless Eyes was Janis' last album for CBS. The album features guest appearances from Manhattan Transfer's Janis Siegel and Country fiddle player Byron Berline. Uncle Wonderful was recorded for the Australian Festival label and was Janis' last album before a ten year break. Something of an oddity in Janis' catalogue, the album contains a lot of synthesizer backing and spawned a dance hit in 'Heart Skip Too Many Beats', which was co-written and performed with Dan Hartman.

Hendryx’s biggest commercial success came with 1987's single "Why Should I Cry?", a top 5 R&B hit which also reached #58 on the Billboard 100. The accompanying album, Female Trouble, boasted an impressive list of contributors, including Dan Hartman (who also served as a producer), Peter Gabriel, Prince ("Baby Go Go"), George Clinton, David Van Tieghem and Mavis Staples. Around this time, she became a member of the Black Rock Coalition, founded by Vernon Reid of Living Colour.
