If you are a celebrated progressive rock musician who has produced dozens of albums, how do you make an album that is different to what is usually expected? One answer is to work with musicians who also have decades of experience and worldwide recognition, plant a few seeds, then stand back and see what happens. For the Cosmic Cathedral project and their debut album 'Deep Water', this is exactly what Neal Morse did, joining up with Chester Thompson (Genesis), Phil Keaggy & Byron House. Much of the album was created from jam sessions where Morse's long-time audio partner Jerry Guidroz put the best parts together, such as for the 38 minute epic, Deep Water Suite. Says Morse, "Time To Fly, also came directly from one of the jam sessions, where we took one of Phil's ideas and all four of us elaborated on it.

Ellen Smith, shot through the heart; Frankie Silver, who killed her abusive husband with his own gun and then dismembered him; and Omie Wise, seduced and drowned by a wealthy young man. Three folk songs from North Carolina inspired John Allemeier (b. 1970) and choreographer E.E. Balcos to create a darkly lyrical trio of chamber works that together make a single piece of dance theatre. This is vivid music that doesn’t need to be seen to be believed.

Genre: Jazz, Fusion | Label: Gonzo Multimedia

Celebrated British saxophonist Gary Windo had an imposing musical presence as his untimely passing in 1992 left a huge void on the international jazz and rock scenes. He could seemingly gash titanium into shards via his colossal sound, linked with shimmering vibrato phrasings and serrated lines. During the 70s he was very much in- demand and a key collaborator with storied 1970s Brit jazz icons such as jazz artist Graham Bond, progressive rock luminary Robert Wyatt and was a member of pianist Keith Tippett's bold 50-piece orchestra Centipede, amid his work with Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and other notables.

The day to day of life is typically a little short of annoying, and many of us are quite short of content with it all. Whether we are feeling our dreams slowly slip away as we type something into a computer, or we once again wish we could knock off work tomorrow to play late into the night tonight, most of us are always wanting something else than what we currently have. Kevin Elkin Henthorn, the mind behind indie rock project Cape Francis, feels the same way. He's been grinding away for years trying to make a living as a musician, but by sheer force of our system, he has to spend his days behind a shirt and tie. Deep Water, the group's sophomore album, is an austere indie rock record that documents that daily slog of waiting on your daydreams to come true. Cape Francis is the indie rock everyman, and he made a record that many will feel in their bones.

Genre: Folk-Rock, Americana | Label: Funzalo Records

Just because nothing on banjo/guitar master Tony Furtado's 14th album couldn't have been included on his last half dozen doesn't make it any less enjoyable or edgy. Deep Water is another predominantly low-key yet never easygoing set of ballads and midtempo folk-rockers, with an emphasis on folk. The tracks are a little shorter and tighter this time, yet nonetheless sizzle like a dry fuse threatening to detonate its bomb. Most never do – however, the anticipation creates tension that fuels this darkly tuneful music. Vocals aren't Furtado's strong suit, yet he sounds loose and comfortable, applying his dusky, five-o'clock-shadow voice to songs that make the most of his less-is-more singing and deceptively intricate guitar and banjo work.
Deep Water: The Mississippi River in the Age of Mark Twain (Southern Literary Studies)

Deep Water: The Mississippi River in the Age of Mark Twain (Southern Literary Studies) by Thomas Ruys Smith
English | May 31st, 2020 | ISBN: 0807171093 | 344 pages | EPUB | 3.61 MB

Mark Twain's visions of the Mississippi River offer some of the most indelible images in American literature: Huck and Jim floating downstream on their raft, Tom Sawyer and friends becoming pirates on Jackson's Island, the young Sam Clemens himself at the wheel of a steamboat. Through Twain's iconic river books, the Mississippi has become an imagined river as much as a real one. Yet despite the central place that Twain's river occupies in the national imaginary, until now no work has explored the shifting meaning of this crucial connection in a single volume.

The Beatles loved Grapefruit so much that they signed them to their Apple Music Publishing Company. John Lennon even suggested the band’s name. George Alexander (the brother of George Young of The Easybeats) was the leader, joined by John Perry and brothers Pete and Geoff Swettenham, formerly of Tony Rivers & The Castaways. The fruity ones enjoyed a hit single with ‘Dear Delilah’ in 1968 and released debut album ‘Around Grapefruit’, acclaimed for its orchestral arrangements and vocal harmonies. ‘Deep Water’, Grapefruit’s second album, was released in 1969 and marked a seismic switch towards soul, rock and country influences. We have added six bonus tracks to the original album, including four single versions plus two other recordings.
