Derek Taylor fut l'attaché de presse des Beatles durant l'année 1964, puis dirigea le service de presse d'Apple Corps de 1968 à 1970. Entre-temps, basé en partie aux Etats-Unis avec sa famille, cet ex-journaliste londonien travailla pour bon nombre de groupes californiens, à commencer par les Byrds et les Beach Boys. Ce livre aux allures de carnet de bord, écrit "à chaud" ou presque, au début des années 70, raconte cette odyssée. On y croise pêle-mêle Peter, Paul & Mary, David Crosby, Brian Wilson, Captain Beefheart ou Mae West (! )…
