Dr.gary Dayton

Released at the same time as Dayton/Cutie Pie, this two-for-one release from the U.K.-based Expansion label combines the third and fourth albums from Dayton: Hot Fun (Liberty, 1982) and Feel the Music (Capitol, 1983). Perhaps due in part to switching between labels that weren't among the best outlets for R&B, the group never gained much commercial traction, but they recorded a considerable amount of excellent sophisticated funk. Much of it can be heard here, including the standouts "We Can't Miss," "Meet the Man," "Out Tonight," and "The Sound of Music" - the last of which stands up to anything driven by Leon Sylvers III (Shalamar, the Whispers, Dynasty) or Jacques Fred Petrus (Change, High Fashion, the B.B. & Q. Band).

Dayton were founded in 1980 by David Shawn Sandridge. From Dayton, Ohio, components of the group for the two albums we present here in 1980 and 1981 were: David Shawn Sandridge: Lead and Background Vocals, Lead and Rhythm Guitars, Horner D-6 Clavinet, Hell Talkbox, Percussion.

The Ohio Players were an American funk and R&B band, most popular in the 1970s. They are best known for their #1 hit songs "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster".

Nicholas Britell is an Academy Award-nominated composer, pianist, and producer. His critically acclaimed score for Barry Jenkins’ Oscar-winning film MOONLIGHT was nominated for the 2017 Oscar for Best Original Score and was awarded the 2016 Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Score (Dramatic Feature). In addition, his score for MOONLIGHT garnered numerous other accolades including a 2016 Golden Globe nomination and a 2016 Critics’ Choice nomination. In October 2017, Britell was awarded the “Discovery of the Year” Award at the World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent, Belgium, as well as the Distinguished Composer Award from the Middleburg Film Festival.

The Jerry Hahn Brotherhood was formed by jazz guitarist Jerry Hahn who had paid his dues working with John Handy, the Fifth Dimension and Gary Burton.
