With his second post-millennium album in just two years, Mark Knopfler has already equaled his meager (non-soundtrack) output for the '90s. And while he isn't reinventing himself, The Ragpicker's Dream is a pleasant, classy, often inspired effort whose unassuming charms are best appreciated after repeated listenings…

The Ragpicker's Dream is Mark Knopfler's third solo album, released in 2002. It is a collection of songs written from the point of view of poor but dignified people, struggling to get by in life, often enjoying small triumphs. Knopfler does not play the acoustic guitar as much as he used to, but gives a folk imprint to the whole album. The first song, "Why Aye Man", was used as the theme tune for the third series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet which first aired in 2002 and the album contains numerous other references to North East England, including the village of Tow Law on "Hill Farmer's Blues".

Does the Cosmic Shepard Dream of Electric Tapirs? Review by François Couture
Released in 2004 – also the year of Mantra of Love, Minstrel in the Galaxy, and the four-CD set The Penultimate Galactic Bordello Also the World You Made – this studio album was actually recorded in the second half of 2002, around the same time as 2003's Univers Zen ou de Zéro à Zéro, and it shares more similarities with that earlier effort than the aforementioned 2004 releases. It is also one of Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O.'s finest albums, with excellent sound quality, diversity, and a very strong balance between hard-rocking psychedelia and trippy sonic explorations.
Ella Fitzgerald & Cole Porter - Dream Dancing (1978) [Reissue 2002]

EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks+.cue+log) - 312 MB | Covers (4 MB) included
Genre: Vocal Jazz | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Pablo Records (00025218707220)

Originally released on Atlantic as Ella Loves Cole and then reissued on Pablo with two extra cuts from 1978, this set features the great Ella Fitzgerald (still in excellent form) backed by an orchestra arranged by Nelson Riddle performing an extensive set of Cole Porter songs. Fifteen years earlier Fitzgerald had had great success with her Cole Porter Songbook and this date, even with a few hokey arrangements, almost reaches the same level. Trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison and pianist Tommy Flanagan are among the supporting cast. Highlights include "I Get a Kick out of You," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "All of You," "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Just One of Those Things."
