In this concert/motion picture starring the New Romantic Pop stars, Doctor Duran (actor Milo O'Shea) the evil character in the cult film 'Barbarella' returns to earth, crash landing his time machine directly underneath a giant stadium in Oakland, California. He is bent upon doing battle with the five imposters above him (the band) who have stolen his name. The evil doctor sends out his henchmen to destroy them as they perform to a packed stadium. Duran Duran continues to perform throughout, as much chaos ensues around them. Duran Duran are captured at their musical best in Arena by award winning director, Russell Mulcahy, who was to hone his skills working on music promos through the 80's. Also includes the Making Of Arena documentary which opens the lid on the creative processes involved with making Arena.
Duran Duran's Original Gold is two of the band's previous albums (Arena and Liberty) bundled together. Why this was done makes no artistic sense to me. Arena is a live concert album by the original five members…
Duran Duran’s debut eponymous album has just been given an overhaul nearly 30 years (yikes!) after it first hit the shelves (vinyl and cassette!!). This was the album that catapulted the boys from New Romantic wannabees in Birmingham clubs to pop stars. The album really stands the testament of time, especially the three singles – 'Planet Earth’, 'Girls on Film’ and 'Careless Memories’. As well as these singles the album has some more great quality tracks including 'Night Boat’ and 'Anyone Out there’ – both could have been singles.
The package is much more than just a re-mastering of the album. CD1 also includes all the b-sides, whilst CD2 has various unreleased and rare tracks including early demo’s which are a great alternate versions – Girls on Film and Planet earth both sounding particularly raw but at the same time retaining much of the electronica accompaniment.
Then to top it all comes the DVD, including the infamous banned 'soft porn’ video for Girls on Film, produced by Godley and Creme. You alos get the 'clean’ version, some TOTP appearances and even a bit of Swap Shop as well.
Greatest is a Duran Duran fan's biggest wish come true (next to a live concert, of course)–all their groundbreaking videos together in one place. More than radio, MTV made mega-stars out of the photogenic group, and few took better advantage of the medium, particularly in the 1980s. Just as their music combined the sophisticated pop of Roxy Music with the electro-funk of Chic, each video is as immaculately styled and conceived as the band itself. Like 1998's Greatest CD collection, this two-DVD set features all their big hits, including uncensored versions of "Girls on Film" and "Come Undone." Directors include Godley and Creme, Julien Temple, and Vogue photographer Ellen Von Unwerth and years covered range from 1981's self-titled debut to 1997's Medazzaland. All told: more models, more hair spray, and more mascara than a Paris fashion show–but it's got a better beat (and you can dance to it).
Danse Macabre is the sixteenth studio album by the British band Duran Duran. It was released on 27 October 2023 through BMG and Tape Modern. A Halloween-themed album, the record includes three new tracks, covers and reimagined versions of older Duran Duran material. Former guitarists Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo appear, making their first appearances on a Duran Duran LP since 2004's Astronaut and 2000's Pop Trash, respectively. Nile Rodgers and Victoria De Angelis of Måneskin also feature as guest artists. Exquisitely packaged the record features images adapted from a collection of authentic vintage séance photos that band member Nick Rhodes sourced at auction.
