Many of drummer Louis Hayes' recordings as a leader have been recorded for European-based labels, so they have not gotten the attention they deserve in his native country, the United States. His sextet for this 1989 session includes pianist Kenny Barron, brother Gerald Hayes on alto sax, trumpeter Charles Tolliver, tenor saxophonist John Stubblefield, and bassist Clint Houston, all of whom are in excellent form. Surprisingly, Houston contributed most of the originals to the date, including the exotic, swirling opener, "El Cid," the brisk samba "Geri," and the more easygoing samba "Saudade."

The new album of international epic folk viking metal project FOLKODIA has released. 10 musicians from 9 countries (Greece, Monaco, Lithuania, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Russia , Italy, Argentina) have take part in it. they are the members of such bands as Folkearth, Sunuthar, Black Knight Symphonia, Dol Amroth and some other projects. Finnegans Wake is a progressive rock band that started in 1993. The purpose was to develop an approach centered on the legacy of the past prestigious seventies bands (Henry Cow, Van der Graaf Generator) blending with other influences, such as contemporary, folk and jazz references. The band started in Brussels (Belgium) and is now based in João Pessoa (PB) in Brazil where Henry Krutzen moved in 2001.

This 2-disc release of Herrmann's first score for Harryhausen is a lavish delight. Firstly, both discs are presented in full stereophonic sound - the full-bodied monaural descriptor being entirely wrong for the disc-1 complete score. This presentation utilizes the same remastered music stems that the Sony blu-ray disc offers, and is sonically splendid. The second disc is the original soundtrack album re-recording, all stereo except one track, and it's the familiar version that's been a collector's item for many years. The soundtrack album was conducted by Muir Mathieson, and contrary to Herrmann's opinion of it, it's a robust presentation of the original score. A masterpiece, right up there with the likes of Moross' THE BIG COUNTRY, North's SPARTACUS, Rosza's EL CID, and Jarre's LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.

Born on Christmas Eve in Philadelphia, 1961, Ray Bryant began picking out tunes on the piano at the tender age of six. His mother, an accomplished pianist gave him his first lessons before he moved on to other teachers and finally joined the local musicians union at fourteen! He quickly became the house pianist at the Blue Note club in Philadelphia where he says he made more money than his piano teachers! Finally he headed out on tour with his trio supporting vocalist Carmen McCrea and in 1958 joined the Jo Jones Trio…
