This CD features great postwar Blues guitar work from Rockin' Johnny, a young man who has spent most of his 20's slinging his Rickenbacker in juke joints around Chicago. This is 180 degrees away from the Stevie Ray Vaughn rocked-out pseudo-Blues. There is no Jimi Hendrix influence here. Johnny's guitar is clean, thoughtful, & melodic. He really makes that Rickenbacker talk. The three guest vocalists (Robert Plunkett, Tail Dragger & Sam Lay) are all west-side veterans who add a lot of flavor to this fantastic disc……

Russ Ballard's eponymous 1984 album and its sequel, The Fire Still Burns, were reissued on a single disc by Renaissance Records in 1996. Both albums are fairly spotty, but they have enough highlights to make this worthwhile for dedicated fans of Ballard or his former band Argent.

Recorded in 1973 but only released the following year, "Desert Places" displays a wild mix of styles and influences, ranging from Jethro Tull (title track Desert Places) to Deep Purple, with a light sprinkling of krautrock "motorik". The musicianship however is never less than highly competent, making this record a highly prized prog rarity. Satin Whale's Desert Places was a fantastic heavy-prog effort, performing a mix of blues, hard rock and slight jazz, tempered by a stunning guitar, killer swirling organ and hard driven bass and drum. All the tracks are extremely energetic and well played. "Seasons of life and Remember" are the highlights of the album. HEAVY KRAUT PROG KILLER !! Fantastic Album !!

Le Orme is probably the best expression of progressive rock in Italy, over PFM, Banco and others. This set have pro and cons. The quality of the remasters were made by the work of Maurizio Bancani and Federici Filippo very splendid in did…

What a fantastic record. Hot Chocolate made some absolutely marvellous records & this collection is testament to that fact. The songs are smooth as silk. They can be a combination of very funky, sexy & saucy, bitter & sweet. The musicianship is fantastic,as is the production & if Errol's voice was a business, I reckon Ann Summers would be bankrupt. You do forget with some bands how much quality they produced & Hot Chocolate are probably for many people, one of those bands. I thoroughly enjoy this record, its pure quality.
