Luigi Bazzoni's "L'Uomo L'Orgoglio, La Vendetta" aka. "Man, Pride & Vengeance" is a quite original little film, as it narrates the story of the famous opera/novel "Carmen" in the style of a Spaghetti Western. Contrary to the common belief, however, this movie is actually not (originally) a Western. The film, which originally takes place in 19th century Spain, was made a Spaghetti Western in the German language version (and in the English version) by simply changing the plot. Spain becomes Mexico in these versions of the movie, and that's why this film that is often incorrectly referred to as a Western. The plot makes a lot more sense when the movie is regarded in is original context.

His later film "Basic Instinct" was a loose remake of this film; Verhoeven considers "The 4th Man" to be a spiritual prequel. A man who has been having visions of an impending danger begins an affair with a woman who may lead him to his doom.

Ned Racine, an inept and rather sleazy Florida lawyer, becomes entangled with Matty Walker, a ruthless femme fatale who is plotting to murder her wealthy husband Edmund and collect his entire estate. Racine's lust for Matty is such that he agrees to help her commit the murder. He enlists the help of one of his shadier clients, Teddy Lewis, an expert on incendiary devices, to help him cover up the crime. All seems to have gone well until an unknown person begins feeding the prosecutor's office bits of incriminating evidence. Reluctantly, Racine's best friends, soft-shoe-dancing District Attorney Peter Lowenstein and police detective Oscar Grace, begin to follow the guilty couple's trail.
