From Dusk

The last twelve months has seen Gaby Moreno win a Grammy for her 2023 EP ‘X Mi Vol 1’ and a Latin Grammy as producer of ‘Vida’ by Omara Portuondo. Her song ‘Por Qué Te Vas?’ was a highlight of the soundtrack for last year’s ‘Puss In Boots- The Last Wish’ movie. AUK readers in the UK may have seen her supporting Nickel Creek in the Autumn of 2023 while any attending San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass a few weeks later will have seen her move a Sunday lunchtime audience at the main Banjo Stage from ‘who’s this?’ to a roaring standing ovation inside 40 minutes.

Emancipator, continues to build on an ambitious 2015 with the release of his second remix album, Dusk to Dawn Remixes. Curated entirely by Appling himself, Dusk to Dawn Remixes picks up where Dusk to Dawn left off, offering a gorgeous and engaging listening experience through the juxtaposition of a variety of differing styles. Dusk To Dawn Remixes features remixes from ODESZA, Little People, Eliot Lipp, Tor, D.V.S, Lapa, 9 Theory, Erothyme, Frameworks, saQi, and remix contest winner NKLA.

To say that Joe Moore is prolific is to say not nearly enough. To his ever-growing collection of releases under the name The Yearning, you have to add the fantastic Lia Pamina album he produced and composed, as well as several new and very different projects. His productions are becoming more and more well-known all over the world, from one side of the planet to the other, from the US to Japan. Their signature effusive, romantic, and elegant sixties-style pop is already a well-known trademark! That's why the release of From Dawn Till Dusk (2011-2014) is big news. Big for all the newcomers, because they can get their hands on the completely sold out first singles, EPs and Mini-LPs; and big for the more experienced fans, because they can get access to hard-to-find tracks from compilations and B-sides, and even some previously unreleased songs; and because it's a way to enjoy this huge collections of songs as a whole, available together for the first time on CD.

With their debut "Tales from eternal Dusk", the guys from Dark Fortress from Bavarian Landshut have outdone themselves. The 11 songs on their CD line up in their perfection and show the listeners that there are other bands that can do Black Metal like Dissection, Naglfar or Dimmu Borgir of the older school. They do not sound like a cheap copy or copy of this known scene sizes. They convey the very feeling that is supposed to be conveyed with this music. Without commercial and other superfluous peculiarities, "Tales from eternal Dusk" should appeal to everyone who likes rough, yet very melodic Black Metal.

On LINES AT DUSK, acclaimed hornist John McGuire presents seven pieces, written by a variety of composers, with performances that are at once deep and expansive. The three movements of Landscapes, Series II, inspired by Japanese landscape paintings and woodcuts, travel from the dangerous mountains through the tranquility of the countryside and the bustling energy of a large city. It closes with an extended coda, with longer note values and a more sustained piano part that indicates a return to a calmer, more serene environment.
