A Space in Time (1971). A Space in Time was Ten Years After's best-selling album. This was due primarily to the strength of "I'd Love to Change the World," the band's only hit single, and one of the most ubiquitous AM and FM radio cuts of the summer of 1971. TYA's first album for Columbia, A Space in Time has more of a pop-oriented feel than any of their previous releases had. The individual cuts are shorter, and Alvin Lee displays a broader instrumental palette than before. In fact, six of the disc's ten songs are built around acoustic guitar riffs. Did coming to America dull one of this century's most talented composers of music for the German theater? Nonsense. Kurt Weill simply turned into one of this century's most talented composers of music for the American theater. He arrived in America in 1935, and it took him only a few years until he was writing theater music for Broadway that was idiomatic and of the very highest quality. Therefore, if one finds fault with the American Kurt Weill, then one must find fault with American musical theater from the thirties and forties in general, because Weill was one of its best craftsmen.

Watt had many of the same ingredients as its predecessor, Cricklewood Green, but wasn't nearly as well thought out. The band had obviously spent much time on the road, leaving little time for developing new material…

The Liverbirds were not unique, but they were certainly unusual. The male groups of the Merseybeat era were ten a penny. Of the 400 Liverpool combos listed by Spencer Leigh in his book Let’s Go Down The Cavern, less than a handful are female. The fact that the Liverbirds played their own instruments made them doubly rare, even more so on a national and international level. Although they were from Liverpool, as photographs suggest (at a quick glance they could almost be mistaken for the Pretty Things or the Stones) musically the Liverbirds had more in common with the R&B-influenced bands of the South East than your typical Merseybeat group.
