"Brass Construction" is the self-titled debut album by the American funk band Brass Construction, released in autumn 1975 by United Artists Records. Recorded with producer Jeff Lane, the album weaves different influences, including Latin music and jazz, into the band's rhythmic funk style, and emphasises the group's brass section. The album's release was delayed due to other projects involving lead member Randy Muller, but proved to be a surprise success, reaching the Top 10 of the US Billboard albums chart and the UK Albums Chart, where it was the first disco album to do so. It also reached #1 on the US Soul chart, while the singles "Movin'" and "Changin'" also proved commercially successful. Music critics acclaimed the album for its tight sound and lyrical simplicity, and it went on to influence the Britfunk movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

When "Brass Construction 5" came out in 1979, one greeted the LP with skepticism. 1977's Brass Construction III was very uneven, and 1978's disappointing, uninspired Brass Construction IV was the funk-disco outfit's weakest album ever. So people didn't have very high hopes for Brass Construction's fifth album. But Randy Muller and his associates pleasantly surprised their fans with this enjoyable LP, which finds them sounding revitalized. A definite improvement over Brass Construction IV, this 1979 release boasts some of the combo's most infectious grooves since Brass Construction II.

Released by Funky Town Grooves in 2010 through EMI, this release combines the third and fourth albums by Brass Construction, which were originally issued, respectively, in 1977 and 1978. They were not among the band's best releases, but they did generate four charting singles, namely the Top 20 R&B hit "L-O-V-E-U," as well as "Celebrate," "Help Yourself," and "Get Up." There's a handful of solid album cuts, the best of which is the earlier album's "Top of the World," a jam that contains a wild guitar solo and an incredible breakdown. Casual fans should seek out either The Best of Brass Construction: Movin' & Changin' or Classic Masters.

Brass Construction leader Randy Muller took the group in a wider direction on their sophomore effort, Brass Construction 2 issued in December 1976. Their second LP was still funky, horn-punctuated disco; it just wasn't non-stop funky disco as their gold self-titled debut. Adding more Latin/Afro Cuban rhythms, they had a Top 10 R&B hit with the first single "Ha Cha Cha." It also introduced the irving Spice strings, who give the urgent radio-aired "Screwed" a swirling, almost tipsy feel.

Some needed changes were evident on this release. Producer Randy Muller moved Brass Construction away from horn-driven disco/funk and toward the synthesizer-dominated, heavily syncopated sound that was now ruling R&B and dance music. He restored a little lost luster, as the single "Can You See the Light" got some urban and dance radio airplay, and the band was no longer missing in action.

Brass Construction kept issuing albums, even though many of their contemporaries had called it quits by the mid-'80s. This album once more spawned two minor hits in "Partyline" and "International," and also made Brass Construction one of the few hit disco acts from the '70s that had made it to the middle of the '80s.

The best of the Brooklyn based funk band formed by Randy Mueller in 1968 as Dynamic Soul. It wasn't until 1975 when the group recorded their first album changed their name to Brass Construction. That album helped change the sound of dance music and began their ascent on both the pop and R&B charts in a career that extended well into the next decade. With hits like "Movin'", "Changin'", "Wake Up" and "Ha Cha Cha (Funktion)", the band certainly made their mark on the world of popular music.
