Future Higher Education

This book examines practice in the field as institutions struggled to face the worst global pandemic in the last century. This volume presents various perspectives from educators around the world to illustrate the struggles and triumphs of those facing new challenges and implementing new ideas to empower the educational process. The volume is organized into four sections on “The Perspectives of Higher Education”, “COVID as a Catalyst for Change”, “Embracing Online Learning as a Response to COVID”, and “Post Covid: The Way Forward”.

This book highlights the major outcomes of the fourth edition of the Future of Higher Education – Bologna Process Researchers Conference (January 2020), which has already established itself as a landmark in the European higher education environment. The conference provides a unique forum for dialogue between researchers, experts and policy makers in the field of higher education, all of which is documented in this proceedings volume.

This book focuses on the disruption of the tertiary higher education system as a result of societal changes occasioned by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and hastened by COVID-19. It takes the view that higher education is on an inevitable trajectory of disruption as a result of globalisation, technological disruption, and disaggregation of the formal education sector but that it must not lose sight of its central role in equipping current and future students for the new economy.
