Papal Error?: A Defense of Popes Said to Have Erred in Faith

Papal Error?: A Defense of Popes Said to Have Erred in Faith by St. Robert Bellarmine S.J., Ryan Grant
English | 2015 | ISBN: 069256599X | 112 Pages | EPUB | 199.6 KB

This little work is an excerpt from Bellarmine's larger treatise "On the Roman Pontiff", book 4, which follows after the assertion of what was already universally taught at that time, but not completely understood nor decreed by the Church's solemn magisterium, that the Pope was infallible in his teaching on faith and morals when teaching the whole Church.

That Bill Frisell should get the "best-of" treatment from his longtime label Nonesuch seems overdue, even strangely so. Frisell began recording for Elektra Musician in 1986 after leaving ECM Records, where he'd recorded a steady string of generally excellent but somewhat low profile albums. Elektra owned Nonesuch Records as well. When Musician ceased to function as a label, Frisell's contract was morphed into the Elektra Nonesuch imprint, and eventually once more into Nonesuch, then Elektra Asylum, then back to Nonesuch. In other words, Frisell has been working with the WEA family for over two decades. In that time he has released no less than 20 albums for the various labels under WEA's corporate umbrella.

All Rebel Rockers is the first record by Franti's Spearhead that captures the power and goodwill of the band's live shows. The title track is a toasting bubbler with organic and synthetic rhythms, a female backing chorus, scratching, scratchy dub guitars, and Carl Young's uber-heavy bassline just rattling under it all. It's an invitation to a dance party at the end of the world. (…) All Rebel Rockers is drenched in it both musically and lyrically; it's a solid rhythm rocker with real politics at its heart. It's not only perfect; it's necessary!

Joe Cocker "The Ultimate Collection 1968-2003", is the first Cocker CD compilation, to adequately cover his entire career since 1968 to 2003. With 30 tracks, this is a fine sampling of some of his biggest hits. This is the perfect CD for someone who is considering buying a Cocker Cd for the first time. Disc one is by far the stronger cd, with classic tracks like, "Feelin' Alright", "Unchain My Heart", "You Are So Beautiful", "The Letter", "When The Night Comes", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "Cry Me A river", just to name a few. Disc two has some nice tracks from his more recent efforts, like "Could You Be Loved", "The Simple Things", "Have A Little Faith", "Never Tear Us Apart" and a great take on Leonard Cohens "First We Take Manhatten".

Chronicles repackages three remastered titles from John Hiatt's A&M years. Bring the Family, Slow Turning, and Stolen Moments. The latter two recordings are arguably Hiatt's best. Bring the Family hosts a fine band that includes what was to become the criminally short-lived Little Village and includes Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and Jim Keltner. Slow Turning with the Goners features Sonny Landreth, Kenny Blevins, and David Ranson. Songs on the first two records are ubiquitous in his live set, including "Memphis in the Meantime," "Drive South," "Have a Little Faith in Me," and "Feels Like Rain." By contrast, Stolen Moments feels rushed, and incomplete. Produced by Glyn Johns, it's more raucous sound stands as a juxtaposition to some of the material. It's not that it's a bad record; in fact, it's a very good one. It just feels out of place next to the two masterpieces that are its mates in this box set.
