This literary movement built itself around underground jazz culture, which expressed liberation of body and soul. Inspired by jazzmen and hep cats, the Beat Generation hipsters rejected traditional values, embraced African-American musics, travelling, drugs, a free sex lifestyle as well as spirituality. Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and On the Road author Jack Kerouac launched the radical American counterculture that thrived in the 1960s and 1970s, leaving a tremendous mark on lifestyles, and on the world of arts and opinions — hippies and punks alike. Hèctor Barrera, ex campione di boxe, fa il cronista in un giornale di Valencia, e in seguito a un articolo si becca una querela da Sandokan, pappone punto sul vivo. Per convincerlo a ritirare la querela inizia un viaggio nel variegato mondo della prostituzione valenciana, tra night di quart'ordine, locali porno frequentati da pensionati e grottesche balere in cui si organizzano lotterie per anziane zitelle con premio in natura. L'indagine segue piste che divergono: quella di un'organizzazione di picchiatori dediti al recupero crediti e quella di una minorenne scomparsa da casa. Ma scava, scava, Barrera comincia a scoprire cose che possono diventare pericolose, e a questo punto non è di troppo una Heckler calibro nove.
