As a bonus to accompany their annual calendar, Blues Images adds a disc of classic 1920's blues. Featuring Pre-War classics from Blues masters such as: Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe, Willie Lofton, Henry Thomas, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, Mississippi Sheiks and others.
"Blues & Ballads, this acoustic collection of songs interpreted simply, recorded live, solo or with a small group of friends celebrates my relationship between music, songs, the written word and legacy. Blues & Ballads celebrates the American oral tradition of blues and folk songs, not only being passed down and evolving but being transcribed (the original recording technique) and entered into the discipline of written sheet music and songbooks.
Scott Keeton and The Deviants released their new CD 100 Mile Blues, April 6, 1999. JSP signed the band last fall and this is their first release with them. All twelve tracks on this disc are original and range from deep guitar fueled blues such as "Nothing Left to Say," to the drag ‘em out "Back Door Shuffle," from the Dwight Yokum-flavored, "Look At That Girl" to the lyrical romantic playing of "Heart Break" and "Eye On You." It is great stuff and will particularly appeal to those of you with a taste for other cross-generic show stoppers such as The Paladins.
Keeton, based in Oklahoma City where this CD was recorded, has soaked in the musical sounds of the region – not only blues and rock but also some gritty Southern soul as well. His unwavering commitment to the heart of its songs, a guitar style that could storm a besieged embassy, and a more than on the money vocal style push the listener to a special place. He has amassed twelve years of blues-playing experience, and has been the toast of the South and Southwestern blues clubs for at least seven years.
As a bonus to accompany their annual calendar, Blues Images adds a disc of classic 1920's blues. The CD has a total of 24 tracks: 12 Blues classics from Blues masters Henry Thomas, Furry Lewis, Blind Blake, Charley Patton, Mother McCollum and others as well as 12 super rare songs by legendary bluesmen Tenderfoot Edwards, Blind Percy and Jim Thompkins.
3 CDs packed with the greatest women Blues singers of all time performing some of their best known songs. They are all here, including, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Billie Holiday, Etta James - and many more.
This colossal 2–hour release captures some of the unique pianist’s lesser-known work. The first of the four dates included on this edition was recorded with Jimmy Knepper’s quintet in New York in September 1957. Alto saxophonist Gene Quill, bassist Teddy Kotick and drummer Dannie Richmond round out the group. The second date is a very rare 1959 session with Evans accompanying singer Frank Minion. Featuring the full rhythm section of Miles’ legendary sextet – Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb – the quartet performs homage to the legendary album Kind Of Blue with excellent versions of So What and Flamenco Sketches and with original lyrics by Minion. The band also performs Monk’s modern standard Round Midnight.
Like Omigod! The 80s Pop Culture Box (Totally) is a seven-disc, 142-track box set of popular music hits of the 1980s. Released by Rhino Records in 2002, the box set was based on the success of Have a Nice Decade: The 70s Pop Culture Box, Rhino's box set covering the 1970s. Like Omigod! includes a 90-page booklet of cultural comment, a timeline for the decade, and liner notes for the tracks included in the set. As does Have a Nice Decade, the tracks tend to be from the lesser-known artists who were one-hit wonders, although music from the best-selling artists of the era are also included. In addition, many of the 1980s musical styles — rock, pop, country pop, new wave, funk, disco and rhythm and blues — are represented.
