Shawnee, Ohio is a sonic portrait––past and present, real and imagined––of a small Appalachian town in the United States. Performed with sampled archives, video, field recordings, and live musicians, Shawnee, Ohio critically engages ecology, energy, place, and personal history to ask: What are the stories of people from a rural town? What are their memories and thoughts of mining? Of fracking? What are the sounds of a town fighting to survive after a century of economic decline and environmental degradation? These sounds are used as compositional material reflecting layers of history in Appalachian Ohio. Shawnee’s history includes coal, gas, oil, and clay extraction, and the formation of early labor unions. The town’s downturn and partial restoration act as an ethos of the struggles and hopes of the larger region, now immersed in a controversial fracking boom. Shawnee, Ohio considers these histories, evokes place through sound, and listens to the present alongside traces of the past.

One of the most amazing Prog Metal albums I have heard recently, comes from straight from New York and it is no other than the second “Gold Tooth” release by PYRAMID. The band is around since 2017 and they have actually released another also -“Mi Rage” is its title and I would put on the list of worth checking debuts-. PYRAMID fulfills the artistic vision of the bassist Lance Sawyer who composes and arranges everything in here, however he have managed to gather a bunch of great musicians around the project. For example Chris Quirarte from REDEMPTION is doing all the drumming in here, while Denny Anthony (SIGNS Of REIGN, VERITAS, ABANDONED FATE), takes care of all the vocal duties (and man he is doing it really well). Finally Adam Bentley and Joey Izo -both from ARCH ECHO) are completing the puzzle on guitars and keyboards.

Opener "When Shadows Are Gone" set the standard of this album, starting off with a nice keyboard/guitar lead letting us know we are in for a real treat.
