Insight in Jazz

New Yorker Marc Copland, one of the most under-rated modern pianists, is no stranger to these shores. Bassist Gary Peacock, on the other hand, is a jazz superstar, better known for his role in the Keith Jarrett trio. But these musicians are perfectly matched, and Peacock particularly revels in the freedom of the duo setting, where the bass assumes a different and more central role in the melodic content of the music. With Copland a consummate accompanist, there is plenty of opportunity to admire the gorgeousness of the great bassist's sound and the connection between these two fine musicians.

She sings mostly about love, sometimes spontaneously composing songs onstage."Musical motifs appear in my head unpredictably," she explains. In 1999, Nino Katamadze founded her 4 piece band - Insight. Since then they have been performing across Georgia, in Moscow and in some European countries. Band’s repertoire includes a lot of originally arranged Georgian folk songs. The strong side of the band is Nino’s vocal and extraordinariness in both music and stage performance.

Tremendous work from the legendary Prince Lasha – a rare UK-only date from 1966 – and one that has the reedman working away from more familiar contemporaries like Sonny Simmons and Eric Dolphy! The approach on this session is very unique – as Lasha includes harp with the instrumentation, played by David Snell in a style that's right up there with Dorothy Ashby's best jazz work.
