James Brown Remixes

Motherlode is a 1988 compilation album by the hardest working man in show business, James Brown. This collection came about when Brown's music was getting renewed attention through its use as samples in hip-hop. All of the songs were previously unreleased in 1988 except for the two remixes which close the CD. This is a Polydor sureshot.

This is a promotional 2CD set released in the summer of 1990 highlighting a mixture of recent material released by the Polygram labels, focusing on R&B, rap, hip-house, house and dance music, plus albums they reissued or remastered. A few of the songs are here in radio edit form, unavailable elsewhere, while others are remixes that could be unfamiliar to some.

"If you grew up in the ‘80s and had even the smallest of passing interest in music, particularly club music, chances are you were very familiar, albeit unwittingly, with the work of John Morales. On the radio, in the record racks and most importantly on the dancefloor John’s work (predominately with studio partner Sergio Munzibai) helped define an era and influence future generations of DJs, producers and artists.
Born into a hard working Puerto Rican household in the Bronx, New York, at the start of the rock ‘n’ roll era, Morales, like many children of the era, was fascinated by this new art-form that was saturating the airwaves and rebelling parents everywhere. So in love with the music he heard, as a 12-year old he persuaded his local record store to give him a part-time job with payment not in dollars, but in 45s. By the time he was old enough to get a full-time job his burgeoning record collection had helped land him one of his first DJ gig at the influential Stardust Ballroom in the Bronx (his father had early owned a bar in Jersey City where John had first got the DJ bug). As his reputation grew Morales was invited downtown to Manhattan to play guest spots at the likes of Pippins, Bentleys, 1018, Limelight and the infamous Studio 54.

Bongo Rock is a 2006 compilation CD by The Incredible Bongo Band. Started by Michael Viner, his albums were nothing more than cover versions of well known songs along with a few original pieces, all complimented by someone playing mean bongo rhythms over it. Normally, it would be a weird part of thrift store ephemera but that was it. However, their cover of "Apache" would become a very important staple in the early movement of what we now know as hip-hop due to the drum break, which moved a lot of people in clubs and basketball courts to breakdance. Others discovered songs on their albums were just as funky. This was released by Mr. Bongo Recordings.
