Compiled by the man largely responsible for the 'acid jazz' movement [a tongue in cheek answer to 'acid house'!], Jazz Juice was Gilles Peterson's first series of compilations made when he was still in his early twenties. The selections across these eight volumes were lovingly compiled and came to represent what was to be a resurgence of interest in all things 'cool' in jazz in the eighties, when jazz was brought to the club dancefloors via DJ sets for the first time and lost Afro-Cuban & Latin Jazz, rare grooves and Blue Note releases were keenly revived. Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Sergio Mendes, Jon Hendricks, Marcos Valle, Woody Herman, Dave Brubeck, and more..

Norman Granz is one of the most important non-musicians in the history of Jazz and no one has made a greater contribution to the staging, recording and filming of Jazz concerts. This series of performances from the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival now makes a part of this legacy available on DVD for the first time. Ray Bryant brought to modern Jazz not only the deep roots of the Blues but also the sounds and passion of Gospel.

Features the latest remastering. Includes a Japanese description. Features original cover artwork. One of the coolest records ever from this unique Australian 50s group featuring the extended "Jazz In D Minor" suite. This '50s and '60s band was modeled on The Modern Jazz Quartet, and featured vibraphonist Jack Brokensha. I discovered these guys way back in the late 50's. I thought they were at least 50 years ahead of their time. The blend of of these instruments Bassoon and flute just blow my mind as they did the first time I heard them way back then. The amazing fact is that those sounds are still the coolest and up to date today. Like I said before, 50 years ahead of their time. They deserve 10 stars.

In the wake of the moribund condition of the fine Naxos Jazz label, Naxos World pick up the slack with an excellent Cubano jazz release by the famous Cuban expatriate Alfredo Rodriguez. Born in Havana in 1936, Rodriguez percolated in that musical melting pot, assimilating classical and jazz influences until 1960 when he moved to Manhattan where he stayed until he migrated to another Cuban–dense community, Miami, where he lived and worked until 1985. Rodriguez has resided in Paris since that time, where he has been a successful bandleader, arranger and composer. In the present recording, Rodriguez exposes the listener to different flavors of "Latin Jazz.".

This live bootleg gives the appearance of featuring the Dave Brubeck Quartet with Gerry Mulligan exclusively by its title, though the photo is of Brubeck's earlier group with Paul Desmond, Eugene Wright, and Joe Morello. It's actually a compilation of several different groups recorded during a 1970 festival in Poland (likely Warsaw). Brubeck and Mulligan are joined by bassist Jack Six and drummer Alan Dawson for their two tracks, which include a spirited rendition of Mulligan's "Jumping Bean" and an extended "St. Louis Blues" that proves to be rather humorous, especially with the baritone saxophonist's detour into "I Let a Song Go out of Heart."
