Jeff Jones is an artist of immeasurably rich gifts, and in 'Idyl' he has given us something very special.
A creation that exists concurrently on many different levels, it is, most immediately, a series of glimpses into a lush pastoral world of beautiful and moodily evocative landscapes. Populating this world is a cast of such diverse and highly unlikely characters as reasoning fish, talkative butterflies, contemplative leopards, turtles, and birds.
Over it all presides the wistfully enigmatic central character of 'Idyl'.

Pianist Mike Jones leads a unique trio with bassist/magician Penn Jillette and master drummer Jeff Hamilton on a playfully swinging new album Are You Sure You Three Guys Know What You’re Doing? In the case of this sparkling new album, the inquiry is aimed at a piano trio, two-thirds of which at least can answer assuredly in the affirmative: Mike Jones is an accomplished and acclaimed straight-ahead pianist who studied at Berklee and plays with the soulful virtuosity of heroes like Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum; Jeff Hamilton, meanwhile, is one of the most revered drummers on the modern mainstream jazz scene, co-founder of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and collaborator with everyone from Monty Alexander to Diana Krall, Ray Brown to Michael Bublé.

Armed with a recently-received Master's degree in Music from the University of Iowa, young tenor saxophonist Jeff Miguel enters the world of recorded jazz with an impressive debut album entitled Perseverance, an offering of eight originals forged in the mainstream, straight ahead fashion containing elements of the smooth, Latin and other flavors. Originally from northern Illinois and currently residing in Iowa City, IA, Miguel is an educator and former co-director of the University of Iowa Hawkeye Big Band as well as being an integral part of the Iowa City jazz scene. Inspired and influenced by legendary jazz artists from Quincy Jones to John Coltrane, Miguel seems to be a technician with the reeds, wielding an expressive saxophone like a seasoned veteran poised to establish himself as musician of note.
