It's 1964, St. Nicholas in the Bronx. A charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the school's strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the iron-gloved Principal who believes in the power of fear-based discipline. The winds of political change are sweeping through the community, and indeed, the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller.

This adaptation of the comic novel by T. Coraghessan Boyle is the story of real-life Corn Flakes inventor Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (Anthony Hopkins), an eccentric health nut in the early 20th century. Convinced of the benefits of holistic health practices (mostly involving irrigation of the bowels and colon), Kellogg opens a spa in Battle Creek, Michigan that immediately attracts the well-to-do of his time, including Will (Matthew Broderick) and Eleanor Lightbody (Bridget Fonda). A young couple with sexual and marital problems, the Lightbodys aren't helped much by the forced separation of sexes at Kellogg's sanitarium, and the situation is further exacerbated by Will's obliging nurse (Traci Lind) and Eleanor's encounters with a group of German sex therapists. Also at the spa are Charles Ossining (John Cusack), an ambitious con man who sees a fortune in Kellogg's cereal, and the unwashed, cretinous George Kellogg (Dana Carvey), one of the doctor's several dozen adopted children. A spoof as obsessed as its protagonist with its scatological subject matter, The Road to Wellville was an unusual effort for director-composer Alan Parker, known better for darker dramatic material and musicals.

Film noir persists long past its "golden era" of the 1940s and '50s because the forces that created it — the sense of futility generated by capitalism's lopsided benefits package — continue to exist. But noir has moved from the dark decay of wet city streets to the bleak openness of the West. The American frontier is no longer a rich, vital land waiting for wagon trainloads of pioneers or plucky individuals to conquer it; now it's a vast, dark, lonely prairie, more hopeless than hostile. Recent "neo-noirs" like «True Romance» have leavened this hopelessness with appropriate dollops of black humor, but the real standout in this style is John Dahl's dusty western tale, Red Rock West…

But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her guilt-inducing suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth and to expunge Flynn from the school. Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequences.

Errol FLYNN, Ronald REAGAN, and Olivia de HAVILLAND star in this lofty Western about the cavalry officers responsible for capturing abolitionist John Brown (Raymond Massey). As a penalty for fighting fellow classmates days before graduating from West Point, Jeb Stuart (Errol Flynn), George Armstrong Custer (Ronald Reagan), and four friends are given a dangerous assignment. They're sent to Fort Leavenworth (aka "bloody Kansas territory"), where Brown and his posse of sharpshooting crusaders have camped out. These well-schooled calvary officers play a drawn-out game of cat-and-mouse with Brown's brigade–but the battle at Harper's Ferry is sure to be John Brown's last.
