John Lennon’s birthday today, October 9, is marked by the release of a new deluxe and expanded version of Imagine (The Ultimate Collection). The set is now available to stream and download, and features the entire full-length collection of tracks, some of which have previously only been available on Blu-Ray, in Hi-Res Stereo and Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos. Yoko Ono Lennon and Sean Ono Lennon have sent a note to Lennon’s legions of fans worldwide to explain that each set of mixes from the compilation – Ultimate, Elements, Evolution, Raw Studio and Out-Takes – has been released as a separate album. This allows his songs to be enjoyed in the way that was originally intended, curated by Yoko Ono Lennon, rather than release all 78 tracks from the themed retrospective in one vast playlist.

Gimme Some Truth is a 2010 four CD collection, released to coincide with what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. Gimme Some Truth presents 72 of Lennon's solo recordings on four themed CDs: 'Working Class Hero' (John's socio-political songs), 'Woman' (John's love songs), 'Borrowed Time' (John's songs about life), and 'Roots' (John's Rock `n' Roll roots and influences). All titles are digitally remastered and restored to John's original audio mixes spanning his solo career. This collection also contains a booklet with photos, drawings, handwritten lyrics and more. Each disc comes with it's own cardboard sleeve all encased, along with the booklet, in a hard outer slipcase box.

This 15-song collection (expanded to 19 in 1989 for the CD), released just short of two years after Lennon's death, provided a very generous overview of his solo career on a single LP, drawing on most of the major singles and also on songs that were widely covered, and from all periods of his career, from his late-Beatles-era solo political explorations up to the release of Double Fantasy…
