A two-CD survey of Winter's recordings for Columbia between 1969 and 1979, the era of his greatest commercial success. This collects many of his most popular tracks, though it doesn't do much to argue a case for artistic diversity. Includes two otherwise unavailable songs: an alternate take of "30 Days," and a previously unreleased 1973 cover of Robert Johnson's "Come on in My Kitchen."

Best known for his high-energy blues-rock albums and live performances in the late 1960s and 1970s, Winter also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters. After his time with Waters, Winter recorded several Grammy-nominated blues albums. In 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and in 2003, he was ranked 63rd in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

This second volume in Johnny Winter's self-produced Live Bootleg Series is in many ways superior to the first. The reason is simple: Winter relies far more on his electrifying – sometimes just unbelievable – guitar-slinging interpretation of the blues as it meets hard rock more than re-interpreting rock tunes for the blues. There are only six tunes here, only one of them under six minutes and the rest ranging from seven to 14 and change. There are absolutely amazing readings of Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm," Robert Johnson's "Crossroads," and Jimi Hendrix's "Red House."

This album was recorded in Dallas, in the fall of '69 that also featured B.B. King, Sly & the Family Stone and Ten Years After.. By this time Johnny's popularity was such that he was no longer merely an opening act but a headliner and just a everyone expected, he stole the show. Not only that, we're lucky enough to have a really good quality recording surviving from that unforgettable show.

My Father's Place was a music venue located in Roslyn, New York. Many of the concerts organized and broadcast by the FM radio station WLIR were recorded at the club, some of them are available as official releases and bootlegs. During its 16-year run (May 1971-May 1987), the club hosted an estimated 3,000 artists performing 6,000 shows! Johnny Winter got taped just after the release of his classic 1978 album White, Hot & Blue. This epic performance at My Father's Place on September 8, 1978, captures the Texan blues great in fiery form, backed by new cohorts Jon Paris (bass, harmonica) and Bobby Torello (drums). Winter turns in remarkably extended performances of numerous tracks, including what might just be the longest version of "Bony Moronie" ever recorded! The complete original radio broadcast is presented here with digitally remastered sound, and comes complete with background notes and rare images. The sound is not perfect but it's good and better than a bootleg recorded in the audience.

The blues and rock take a side trip to New Orleans when the masterful Dr. John joins the band on piano.
