'Introducing Kenny Drew' (1953); 'This Is New' (1957); 'Talkin & Walkin' (1955) and 'Jazz Impressions of Rodgers & Hart - Pal Joey' (1957). Having established himself at last through playing with the likes of Coleman Hawkins, Stan Getz and Lester Young he and his fine quartet were finally on their way and touring through 1952 and 1953. All four albums are plus have been digitally re-mastered. Some are also currently hard to find or expensive, so Avid are pleased to be able to make them available once again.

The blues, like all elements of life, is meant to grow, change and progress while retaining its essence. Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith and the House Bumpers accomplish just this with their latest album, 'Drop the Hammer.' Much of his playing was molded by the teaching of his late father, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, who was the drummer for Muddy Waters for over 18 years, and it was important to give this nod of respect. To know who you are and where you are going, one must always honor and acknowledge from where you came. 'Drop The Hammer' focuses on contemporary subject matter while using modern and innovative sounds.

Kenny arrived two years after his last eponymous album Kenny Rogers and those were eventful years for Rogers. During that time, he became a major star, largely due to his version of "The Gambler," a song by Don Schlitz that Kenny turned into his own on his 1978 album of the same name (although it has to be said that Rogers' version bears a startling similarity to Bobby Bare's version released that very year). Kenny was the follow-up to The Gambler and it's clear from how the album glistens and shimmers, Kenny was intended to be a consolidation of his crossover success.
