Leave One Day

A successful and married black man contemplates having an affair with a white girl from work. He's quite rightly worried that the racial difference would make an already taboo relationship even worse.

In Vienna, about 1900, a dashing man arrives at his flat, instructing his manservant that he will leave before morning: the man is Stefan Brand, formerly a concert pianist, planning to leave Vienna to avoid a duel. His servant gives him a letter from an unknown woman, which he reads. In flashbacks we see the lifelong passion of Lisa Berndle for him: first as a girl who was his neighbor; next as a young woman who, in secret, has his child; then as a mature woman who meets him again and abandons husband and son to be with him. Each time he does not remember who she is or that they have ever met. By morning, he has finished the letter, and her husband awaits satisfaction.

L’actrice principale, Wei Minzhi, 13 ans, interprète le rôle d’une jeune institutrice en remplacement dans un petit village dont l’école est délabrée et le taux d’absentéisme scolaire important. Le film est adapté du roman de Shi Xiangsheng « Un soleil dans le ciel » qui a écrit l’histoire originale après avoir rencontré un enseignant dans la province du Xinjiang, à l’ouest de la Chine. Plusieurs thèmes sont abordés : l’éducation en milieu rural, l’enfance, la pauvreté, l’espoir et la ténacité face aux difficultés de la vie. Wei Minzhi, qui porte le même nom dans le film, joue presque son propre rôle. Et tous les acteurs du film jouent ce qu’ils sont dans la vie. Collégienne d’un village voisin, elle est appelée en renfort pour remplacer l’instituteur Gao, contraint de lui laisser son école pendant un mois pour se rendre ailleurs, au chevet de sa mère malade.

In a remote mountain village, the teacher must leave for a month, and the mayor can find only a 13-year old girl, Wei Minzhi, to substitute. The teacher leaves one stick of chalk for each day and promises her an extra 10 yuan if there's not one less student when he returns. Within days, poverty forces the class troublemaker, Zhang Huike, to leave for the city to work. Minzhi, possessed of a stubborn streak, determines to bring him back. She enlists the 26 remaining pupils in earning money for her trip. She hitches to Jiangjiakou City and begins her search. The boy, meanwhile, is there, lost and begging for food. Minzhi's stubbornness may be Huike and the village school's salvation.

New high-school transfer student Na-Mi comes from a small town in Jeolla Province to her new school in the capital city of Seoul. When she is nervous, her small town dialect comes out & she starts to shake. On her first day at her new school she is bullied by others. Coming to her help is a group of girls.

While playing outside one day, nine-year-old Michele discovers Filippo, who is chained to the ground at the bottom of a hole. Michele witnesses town baddie Felice nearby and suspects something bad is happening. Michele is unsure whom he should tell about his discovery, eventually spilling the beans to his closest friend.
