Les McCann reached the peak of his career at the 1969 Montreux Jazz Festival, recording "Compared to What" and "Cold Duck Time" for Atlantic (Swiss Movement) with Eddie Harris and Benny Bailey. Although he has done some worthwhile work since then, much of it has been anticlimactic.

The combination of Stanley Turrentine's evocative, soulful tenor sax and Les McCann's gospel-tinged piano proved a potent combination on this exciting album. This is excellent soul-jazz session with Turrentine blowing hot. Turrentine recorded scores of albums in his lifetime, but this 1962 session remains one of his best.
