Marius Neset's new release Birds is a masterpiece, a through composed work that takes the listener on a journey, bringing together a world of influences with remarkable energy and creativity. It could sit as comfortably on a classical stage as in a jazz club. However, what impresses most is Neset's ability to combine the freedom of improvisation with the very composed passages. This occurs most remarkably in Spring Dance, which features Neset's highly talented sister Ingrid on flute.
