Mathematics Teacher

This book builds on the Teachers Empowered to Advance Change in Mathematics (TEACH Math) project, which was an initiative that sought to develop a new generation of preK-8 mathematics teachers to connect mathematics, children’s mathematical thinking, and community and family knowledge in mathematics instruction – or what we have come to call children’s multiple mathematical knowledge bases in mathematics instruction, with an explicit focus on equity.

This edited volume addresses the need for reforms in mathematics teacher training, spurred by scientific advancements and societal changes, encompassing calls for changes in curricula, content, and instructional methods. The text highlights the complexities of teaching mathematics, specifically within Africa.

This book offers a unique theoretical perspective deploying contemporary psychoanalytical and post-structuralist theory in an easy accessible style. It links issues in education research, with a particular emphasis on mathematics, to broader social concerns and theorising.
