Da una parte l’allora cardinale Joseph Ratzinger, prefetto della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede e futuro papa Benedetto XVI, dall’altra il filosofo e scrittore ateo Paolo Flores d’Arcais, direttore di “MicroMega”. Al centro del dibattito “arbitrato” da Gad Lerner, svoltosi a Roma il 21 settembre 2000 al Teatro Quirino, gremito, con centinaia di persone che seguono dalla strada attraverso altoparlanti improvvisati, la più grande delle domande: “Dio esiste?”. Questo libro riporta una controversia appassionata, che articola il tema in un dialogo che coinvolge non solo le ragioni della fede e dell’ateismo, ma anche le divergenze e convergenze su bioetica, laicità dello Stato, diritti umani.
