2000 outing from Wayne Hussey & co., one of the biggest goth bands ever. Contains updated re-recordings of 18 of their biggest & best in the '80s & '90s, including 'Deliverance', 'Wasteland', 'Severina', 'The Crystal Ocean', 'Butterfly On A Wheel' and 'Love Me To Death'. "Resurrection" contains new tracks along with a new mix of the old 'classics', but much to my surprise, all of the tracks had been re-recorded. I listened through it and found some very enjoyable new interpretations, Like a Child Again & Butterfly on a Wheel stood out, but I would categorize most as just an interesting experiment by Wayne Hussey (the singer and songwriter).
Released in 1986 'god's Own Medicine' was the Mission's First Album Proper. Having Signed to Phonogram Following Several Successful Independent Single Releases, the Album Contains their Biggest Hit 'wasteland'. The Album Reached No.11 In the Top 40 and Quickly Earnt a Gold Certification. Produced by Tim Palmer and Recorded Very Quickly (By the Mission's Standards!) this Album Captures the Energy and Vibrancy of a Band Fresh to the Music World. It is Arguably the Best Mission Album to Date.
1988 album for British goth-rock act. Children, is a must have. It's The Mission's 3rd effort, and it's utterly fantastic. Opening with Beyond the Pale, a tale of lead singer Wayne Hussey's run in with the LAPD it rocks right from the start. (the Armageddon remix, avaliable on Sum and Substance is tooo die for!) Fabienne, third track, opens with drums and guitars, ominously pounding–if that's not Goth, I don't what is. Tower of Strength, with it's accoustic guitars and Craig Adams basslines, silky smooth, and sexy, will take you right where you want to go. It's The Mission at it's mightiest!.
1987 album for British goth-rock act. Highlights include covers of Neil Young's 'Like A Hurricane' & Patti Smith's 'Dancing Barefoot'. Nine tracks. A real gothic album that makes XTC look like children. I have been following this band since the separation of Sistes of Mercy in the 80's. In the later years thier sound was like Led Zeppelin which this previous CD a must for anyone who wants to relive gothic rock.
1990 album for British goth-rock act. Highlights include, 'Amelia', 'Into The Blue' & 'Butterfly On A Wheel'. Ten tracks. This album is an outstanding rock experience. The Mission is definitely one of the greatest - and most ignored - artrock bands of the 1990's. The opener »Amelia« is a frightening song about incest, recited by the abusive father. On the A side of the vinyl album then follows great melodic rock songs in breathtaking symphonic arrangements, ending in the absolutely outstanding »Deliverance« which till this day is one of my favourite rock songs of all times! Side B starts with a soulful song called »Grapes Of Wrath« (self-explanatory). The journey goes on, and this amazing album ends in the beautiful summer and love song »Lovely«. A fantastic album!
