For her first concert collection in over a decade (available on Blu-ray, DVD and also CD, but with an abridged song list), Alanis Morissette has no trouble packing a night of Switzerland's annual Montreux soiree with a trip through her alternative rock annals. Though some of the show is steeped in tunes from 2012's "Havoc And Bright Lights," which once again finds Morissette belting with her signature abandon, the bulk of the set list is once again culled from 1995's multi-platinum breakthrough "Jagged Little Pill."
Norman Granz is one of the most important non-musicians in the history of jazz and no one has made a greater contribution to the staging, recording and filming of jazz concerts. This series of performances from the prestigious MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL now makes a part of this legacy available on DVD for the first time. Clark Terry has been described as 'possessor of the happiest sound in jazz.' A veteran of Duke Ellington's orchestra, he began to perform as a soloist in the sixties and established a reputation as one of the great teachers of jazz music, which continues to the present day. In this typically exhilarating performance from 1977 he is joined by an all-star band including Oscar Peterson, Ronnie Scott, Niels Pedersen, Joe Pass, Bobby Durham and Milt Jackson.
Queen legend Brian May and first lady of the West End Kerry Ellis come together for The Candlelight Concerts. This great performance, filmed at the renowned Stravinski Auditorium during the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 2013, this wonderfully intimate show blends Kerry Ellis' beautiful voice with the sympathetic guitar playing of Brian May for a largely acoustic performance of standards, ballads, Queen's songs and cover versions.
Patti Smith was one of the key artists in the breakthrough of New York City punk rock with her 1975 debut album “Horses” being hugely influential on the whole New Wave genre. This concert at Montreux from 2005 was part of the tour in support of her 2004 album “Trampin’” and the setlist features tracks from her first album right through to that release. Patti Smith remains a vibrant live performer and this first ever live concert DVD is a long overdue treat for all her fans.
