New Orleans Soul 2014

A New Orleans funk and soul ensemble who enjoyed moderate success in the mid-'70s, Chocolate Milk recorded for RCA from 1975 to 1983. Their roster included lead vocalist Frank Richard, saxophonist Amandee Castenell, trumpeter Joe Foxx, keyboardist Robert Dabon, guitarist Mario Tio, and drummer Dwight Richards. Their best songs were up-tempo and/or light dance/novelty numbers such as "Action Speaks Louder Than Words" in 1975, "Girl Callin" in 1978, and "Blue Jeans" in 1981. All were Top 20 R&B hits; they also tried ballads and heartache tunes, but Richard wasn't as confident or effective on those. The self-titled album, released in 1977, can now be listened to in an expanded edition in excellent quality.

Coming straight out of Leesburg, Florida by way of Shanghai, China, this bold young soul-jazz newcomer, grandson of New Orleans trumpet legend Doc Cheatham, is fortified by tradition with no lack of contemporary electricity to propel him into the future. His trumpet pops over rock guitars and roaring organs, floats on the ballads and bops along on straight ahead swing. Croker deftly bridges generation gaps on Afro Physicist, his first album for OKeh Records, produced by Dee Dee Bridgewater for her DDB Records imprint.

After awakening from a coma with no idea who he is, Dylan White (Callum Blue) creates a safe and normal life for himself. It doesn't last long: horrifying visions start to interrupt his waking moments. Following clues that take him to the dark underbelly of New Orleans, Dylan meets his arch nemesis Quincy (Vinnie Jones) and soon finds that both his life and soul are in danger. FRACTURED is a trip to the dark side, noir-style: bad men, bad dames, bad sex and bad intentions.

Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack. (born November 21, 1940), better known by the stage name Dr. John (also Dr. John Creaux, or Dr. John the Night Tripper), is an American singer-songwriter, pianist and guitarist, whose music combines blues, pop, jazz as well as zydeco, boogie woogie and rock and roll. Active as a session musician since the late 1950s, he gained a cult following in the late 1960s following the release of his album Gris-Gris and his appearance at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. He came to wider prominence in the early 1970s with a wildly theatrical stage show inspired by medicine shows, Mardi Gras costumes and voodoo ceremonies. Rebennack has recorded over 20 albums and in 1973 scored a top-20 hit with the jaunty funk-flavored "Right Place Wrong Time", still perhaps his best-known song. ~Wikipedia

Recorded at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans in May 2014, the album includes 22 songs written or popularized by Dr. John during his prolific six-decade career, a powerful testament to the far-ranging influence and indomitable spirit of the iconic New Orleans singer, composer and musician.
